Palo Santo comes from the Bursera graveolens tree, a fragrant, resin‑rich tree native to the seasonally dry tropical forests of South and Central America, including Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Yucatán Peninsula, as well as the Galápagos Islands. The wood becomes aromatic only after the tree dies naturally and the wood ages on the forest floor.
